Curriculum
Curriculum and instruction at St. Alphonsus Middle School is aligned with the Washington State’s Grade Level Expectations as established by the Office of Superintendent of Pubic Instruction, Olympia, Washington. The exception to this is our Religion curriculum which is set by the Archdiocese of Seattle.
The Middle School is on a two-year rotating cycle for all curricular subjects, except Mathematics.
Comprehensive Academic Program
Our academic program includes:
- Daily classes in mathematics, science, religion, language arts, and social studies.
- Weekly classes in physical education, computer technology, art, and music.
Spanish Infusion Program
Over the years at St. Alphonsus the importance of understanding other cultures and learning another language has been important. The school has made a commitment to infusing Spanish into the curriculum.
For the 2010-11 school year we are hosting a Spanish intern from Colombia through the Amity Institute.
This year students in 5th through 7th grade are exposed to Spanish instruction with the primary goal of interrelating foreign language with cultural awareness.
Class Structure
We have combined 5th/6th grade boys, 5th/6th girls, 7th/8th boys and 7th/8th girls classes. Daily each grade comes together for one class in music, art, P.E., technology, class meeting or Spanish.
